Choosing a name for your Doberman is one of the first challenges of puppy ownership and in some ways one of the most important. The name you choose communicates at least as much about you as it does about your dog.
It demonstrates how you view your Doberman and the relationship you share. Inevitably someone will judge your dog by its name alone, so it is important to use a name that conveys a positive image.
Calling a Doberman named ‘Slayer’ away from a scared group of children isn’t going to be much fun for anyone.
Here are a few things to consider:
- You will use your dog’s name over 35000 times
- Your puppy will grow into a sizable adult Doberman
- You need to say your dog’s name out loud
- Your dog’s name will be used for praise and discipline
- A good name is short and easy to say
It is a good idea to spend some time with your puppy/dog before naming them. Get to know their personality and characteristics. Observing your dog’s traits as well as their physical features may serve as the perfect source of inspiration.
One of the best ideas we had was to get a baby name book. It took us about a month to name our puppy but as soon as my wife read out his name we both new that was the one.
